About This Attraction
Construction of the terminal buildings were completed in 1966 and the airport was named after the then Minister of Transport, Ben Schoeman.
King Phalo Airport was finally renamed East London Airport in 1994 and has undergone major alterations and management changes. In 2021 the name was once again changed to King Phalo Airport, who was the paramount chief of the Xhosa Nation from 1736 until he died in 1775.
